Eye Health Resources
Here is a collection of eye health resources that we have found to help provide eye screenings, discounted prescriptions, and discounted glasses for individuals who qualify. Please take a closer look at each resource to see if you qualify and can use it! This list is still being developed, but we hope that these resources are helpful! Respectacle
This resource helps distribute donated eyeglasses to underserved individuals and communities in the United States. Users only need to enter his/her prescription and fill out some basic demographic information.
New Eyes
This resource provides prescription eyeglasses to children and adults who can’t afford them.
Lions Clubs International
This resource offers help paying for eye care through its local clubs. Some may also provide eyeglasses.
Within San Antonio, there is the Mobile Eye Screening Unit that can provide free visual screenings for individuals. You will not receive a prescription for glasses through the screening, but you can still have your visual acuity, eye pressure, and visual fields checked.
Prevent Blindness
This resource aims to provide vision care assistance to those who meet federal poverty guidelines. For more information about whether you are eligible to receive a referral for an exam for a prescription and eyeglasses, call the number below.

Prevent Blindness contains several sub-programs to provide more specific resources. A few of these programs are listed below
Sight for Students Program provides free eye exams and eyeglasses to children who qualify.
Healthy Eyes Eyeglass Program is a referral system to provide eyeglasses to those who do not qualify for social services and who submit an application with a recent prescription.
Blink Health
This resource provides discounted prescription prices on over 15,000 medications.

Vibrant Works
This resource works to provide resources and opportunities for those who have vision loss. They host a variety of programs for all age groups and provide Low Vision Services.
Blindness Education, Screening, and Treatment (BEST) Program
This resource provides free vision screenings and financial assistance to Texas residents for medically urgent eye treatments with an ophthalmologist’s referral. It can provide blindness prevention education/resources, vision screenings, and urgent medical treatment to prevent blindness. It offers these services to Texas residents over the age of 18 who do not have insurance and who are not legally blind.
iCare with Haven for Hope
This resource can provide eye exams for those who are greater than 150% of the federal poverty line. Please fill out the application on the website to see if you qualify.
Vibrant Works
This organization works to provide resources and opportunities for those who have vision loss. They host a variety of programs for all age groups and provide Low Vision Services
Star Medicaid:
This resource can help search for providers who accept Medicaid for services.
Superior Vision:
This resource helps to search for ophthalmologists and optometrists who accept Medicaid for services.
Compare Extra Services STAR Medical Plans
This resource outlines additional Medicaid benefits that individuals can receive in the Bexar service area. It compares different medical plans to see what extra vision services can be provided by each.
